Err.. Up to you.. No wonder ur frens doesn’t recognize your hokkien. I would pronounce CIT THANG rather than CHI THANG.. CH got round tougue .. So CHI is like FEED… If pronounce 3rd voice.. Chi ki?? Actually I really pronounce as CIT Ki or KEE.. Coz we pronounce fast so u may listen as CI rather than CIT.. We got no round tougue voice actually.. So no need CH.. I think u can ask ur other frens that can speak hokkien well.. If not mistaken I think I got heard that ur frens also think ur hokkien got problem.. But nobody commented b4 coz Alor setar ppl n perlis ppl no complaint.. My penang relatives oso no complaint.. So tally lo~ my penang relatives laugh only some of our alor setar n perlis voice… Coz we got so many na at the back.. But not CIT.. Coz CI LEH (yi1 ge4 - mandarin).. Err… Like my ex lo~ her hokkien no good oso .. She oso pronounce CHI LEH as u.. Actually her mum no let her speak hokkien so she only learn hokkien late.. N comes out funny voice.

I’m agree with chit - 7. That is the early conversation wif Susan while we still arguing. Just ignore it. Be more objective, I still insist to use - chi (not cit) for 1.

This is depends on what is the subsequence word after the 1

For example: 1 bowl of water - chi thang (it will make u tend to chit as t is the opening for the subsequence word, this is reasonable) 1 people - chi lang (do u read as cit lang?) 1 batang - chi ki (do u read as cit ki?) 1 yr old - chi hui (do u read as cit hui? So weird!!!) 1 ekor - chi ciak (do u read as cit ciak?) 1 biji - chi liap ( do u read as cit liap? Sound chis ghi…..)

So, 100 - should chi pak khor

Err.. I agree CHIT is 7 but CIT is 1.. I already agreed with CHIT = 7 in the earlier email.. Why u still put CHIT in the msn n make ppl confused leh? Furthermore your JIT is SUN as u said.. Let’s use some example like CIKU, CITA-CITA… Does it sound closer? Wat do you think?

Actually,

jit Vs cit, the difference is jz through difference of tone. it’s sounds the same if you pronounce it in the same tone.

This is my proove that chi make more sense thru typing and not pronouncing (since our argument is hokkien typing)

Here is the conversation from me with a friend. She support my input.

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

$100 in hokkien

Susan says:

come on… don’t trick me like this la…

Susan says:

underwear….

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

huh?

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

what underwear?

Susan says:

I don’t know ler…

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

I’m argueing this with that guy

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

need ur input

Susan says:

jit pa ko

Susan says:

jit pak kor

Susan says:

more correctly.

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

if u saw this - chit park khor

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

what u think?

char Koay Teow : 屎坑在边度?- 李小龙 says:

700 izit?

Susan says:

haha… I think so…

nope.. i would prefer CIT for one while CHIT for seven as emulated using SIT & SHIT.. i think the angmo over here would be agree also as I let him pronounce just now.. he pronounced as I expected, so i already taken so many samples (data again) liao.. so my decision is FINAL. CIT = 1, CHIT = 7.

yeah.. u r rite.. as i talked to my fren oso.. jit i oso think is SUN…

just now i used one example, u just think SIT & SHIT.. u change the S -> C.. then pronounce.

For me both do not require to round the tongue. And jit will reduce the confusion of 1/7.

Chit – for me will more to chit thor kar (mop the floor), chit ca pek ca (七早八早) 。。。。

Jit – for me will more to jit zi (day), jit tao (日头)。。。。。

Hrm….. mayb the more appropriate way is - chi

Felicia Pee

nope.. i wont .. i already thought of that.. everytime i send out email sure i will think one’s, ur posibility already under my coverage.. jit sounds J means like Jay.. Jeet.. like Jeet kuen Do.. so, is wrong in hokkien.. cit should be more appropriate.. coz no need to round the lidah..
